More and more shoe models available in our store are made of suede. Suede is a specific material that requires proper care, so in this article, we will explain how to distinguish real suede from materials that only resemble it and how to care for suede shoes.

First of all, it’s important to note that suede is a type of leather obtained from its lower part, known as the flesh side. It is treated animal leather without the outer layer, soft, flexible, absorbent, with short fibers, in natural yellow-cream color or artificially dyed. Genuine suede is characterized by its soft nap, resembling fine velvet. However, this material is very easy to counterfeit, so it’s always worth asking the seller what the shoes are made of. Often, manufacturers use synthetic materials resembling suede to reduce production costs. Such shoes will be significantly cheaper, but we do not recommend relying on price alone. As we know, leather shoes are much more comfortable because leather is a flexible material that adapts to the shape of the foot. Moreover, feet do not sweat in leather shoes, which greatly enhances wearing comfort.

Suede is a material that easily absorbs moisture and dust, making it unpopular among customers. However, this concern is unnecessary because with proper maintenance, we can enjoy our suede shoes for many years. To protect the shoes from external factors, it is best to use impregnating sprays. Wax-based products should not be used. Spray the suede shoes from a distance of about 15-20 cm and let them dry completely. We advise against drying them on radiators, stoves, or even in the sun, as high temperatures cause suede to lose its softness.
